About

Welcome to Cinematropolis,

My name is Nathan Bartlebaugh. I’m a 30 yr old film fanatic living in Whitemarsh, MD. I was born and raised here in Maryland and from as far back as I can remember I’ve been a fan of the movies. One of my earliest memories involves sitting in my dad’s lap watching King Kong battle a tyranosaur, crumple a pterodactyl and make Fay Wray scream. From that point til this one, I’ve been hooked on all things cinematic. And as much as I love the world of film, I’ve also come to love MD and Baltimore.

Communities are at the heart of any really great venture, in some form or another. I believe the same is true of film, and in some ways no conversation or exploration of the medium is complete without a consideration of the world around it. I’m not talking endless updates about whats going on in Hollywood. I’m most interested in where people are seeing movies, who they are seeing them with, and the communities and cities that sustain and nourish the filmmakers themselves. For me, any conversation about film will spill over into a conversation about Baltimore. It’s where I see films, it’s the circle of my influence, and it’s the film “scene” I have the most exposure to.

My intention is to write about all aspects of film; the blockbusters, the indies, the foreign pictures, and I want to write from both a national and local perspective. The aim of Cinematropolis is to bring the world of film and the vibe of the Baltimore/Maryland film scene to as many readers as possible. Where the journey itself will lead, I’m not sure, but I’m game to find out.

Greetings from another born and raised in Balto, MD. “The City of Charm” has been host to a number of fims.

Now living in Steamboat Springs, CO. Since my husband is a career ski coach. I have a son who is an indy filmmaker, thus, your blog was of interest to me.

    Bye for now, hon!

(Couldn’t resist that! Now you know I really was born in Balto.)

      Hey there!

Owesome that yous remember to add da hon!

Your son is an indie filmmaker? Has he done anything thats floating out there, has a website or something we can give exposure to? I’m definitely not limited to casting the spotlight on Baltimore/Maryland filmmakers. In fact, I’m a big fan and proponent of indie cinema, so if he’s got something that he’s comfortable with, I’d be happy to do a piece on it here, share a website or whatever. I’m all about championing smaller films and filmmakers and this blog has helped me get in contact with a few of them, so that’s been neat.

If he’s up to something and willing to share, shoot me an email or link or the like and I’ll make sure it’s featured here in some capacity.

      Thanks for stopping by.

I came across your blog and absolutely love it! I completely agree that where you are from influences the conversation about film. I’m from a small town in the midwest and that has definitely had an effect on my movie-going experience.

But I love what I came across here and I’ll be checking back often!
