Oct 8th, 2009–

This weekend, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, lead by conductor Jack Everly, will kick off the BSO SuperPops season with ‘Hollywood: The Epics”.

For anyone who loves classical music, the BSO, or just a great film score, this one will no doubt turn out to be something special. Drawing from such classic and enduring films as Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, Star Wars, and Gone with the Wind, the BSO will serve up a night of transporting movie music with assisance from the Baltimore Choral Arts Society. There’s also a John Williams tribute planned.

Listen, I’ve heard the BSO do Williams (years ago at Oregon Ridge Park complete with fireworks) and it’s absolutely beautiful. I’m no classical music afficiando, but there is something altogether magical about sitting under the stars and hearing the theme from Star Wars played live and on the instruments it was intended to be played on. As for this collaboration…well, I’ve seen the BSO and the BCAS perform video-game music together and that was also a treat. If this gang can make the original Zelda soar, just imagine what they will accomplish with Lawrence of Arabia.

So, if you are a movie buff, a music buff, or just looking for something sufficiently engaging for the weekend, let me direct your attention over to the BSO website where tickets are on sale. The dates and times for the shows are as follows:

Friday/Saturday 9th/10th @ 8.00 p.m. and Sunday 11th @ 3:00 p.m.

Buy your tickets HERE.

And for anyone who needs that extra motivation, here’ some of the music you’ll be hearing:
