Bloglins: Talk about the new episodes of ‘Supernatural’ and ‘The Office’ here!

October 8th,2009–

Slowly pulling out of the trenches of the dreaded flu over here. I’m about 3 in debt on that AMAD column and hoping to knock some out later tonight. Until then, here’s the return of Bloglins, modified. The gist is simple. I’m not gonna do much talking, but instead the comments section is the forum to hear your thoughts on two of tonight’s television offerings.

I’ve been asked on two fronts about putting up articles for Supernatural and The Office so that readers could have a venue to post. I’m a fan of both shows–they are among the select few that I actually follow–so I’m game for it. For those who think mixing the two is akin to letting the gravy touch the carrots, I apologize.

I’ll be honest, I’m not quite up to date enough on either show to participate. I’m an ep behind on the Office, but I’m sure I can make an exception for the much ballyhooed ‘wedding’ episode.

As for Supernatural, I’m discovering it on dvd and learning it’s one of the best horror themed shows to ever hit television; this is coming from a mega-fan of Buffy and the X-Files. Problem is, I’m only on season 2 and they are well into season 5 on the air. Word is that it’s become a regular apocalypse for the Winchester boys and I look forward to catching up.

Anyway, no rules here. Be polite, and don’t worry about spoilers. I’m posting the SPOILER WARNING right now. If you haven’t seen either of the eps and are interested in watching them unspoiled, don’t even venture below. This is for people who have seen it and want to to discuss.

So, here it goes…

Breaking this site in with a Paris Hilton episode but we’ll survive.
Thank you for putting up the site for us.

The Office episode was good…an extra long wedding fiasco for Pam and Jim. Really, after five previous years leading up to this, it was going to be hard to make it anything less than anti-climactic. I think they found a nice balance by more or less capturing it like real life. Things happen, Kevin ends up with kleenex boxes on his feet, Dwight kicks a bridesmaid in the teeth, Andy tears his scrotum, and in the end…after all is said and done, Pam and Jim are married and happy.

Yea, cept for the scrotum part, that sounds about right.

as for Supernatural, we just finished an ep about a guy who drives around in a van with a barbarian queen riding a polar bear painted on the side, coercing people to do things with the power of his mind. Good stuff, if a tad too X-Files-y. Best line:

‘Reo Speedwagon sings from the heart.’
‘No, he sings from the hair. There’s a difference.’

All right just finished the episode. Pretty decent stand alone and somebody finally found a way to use Paris Hilton somewhat effectively as a punching bag. A couple of good in jokes. All in all a solid 8 out of 10.

was paris hilton really in the ep? as what role? a demon?

  11. Xiphos October 9, 2009 at 9:44 am #

Yep Paris Hilton was in this episode as an out of work eastern european pagan god that found a new way to be worshipped and to eat. It was a pretty funny and subtle dig on celebrity going on at the expense of Paris Hilton herself. Also some of teh in jokes involved the big lummox Sam, he was in The House of Wax remake with Hilton.

that whole thing sounds kind of awesome…sounds far more tongue-in-cheek than the show is in earlier seasons. Outside of some clever humor, it can be downright grave at times now.

That episode of the Office was great. See whil I am totally a American office is better then the British Office at this point. I don’t think that if the British Office had gone on any further it could have ever achieved the emotional response that this epiosode got. Also while the Office isn’t always as funny as Sunny and 30 Rock, you will never get any sort of emotional response about any of the characters on those shows that you do with the office.

You are right Koutchboom. I have long preferred the American Office for some obvious reasons. The british version painted David as a giant jerk and while that worked, he was never sympathetic. When he gets sacked at the end of the second season, it feels like justice. Right from the get-go Michael Scott was more over-the-top but also more likable too, and he had good qualities and intentions. I think thats what allows the show to continue, that and the fact the secondary characters in U.S. office are all–across the board–interesting and have their own things going on. Gervais show was mostly him and then the guy/girl office relationship. This version built itself on those elements but then moved on from them, so we can have great moments for everybody in a single ep.

“Mr. Malone…about your shoes. I had them incinerated. I deemed them a health risk.

If you’re in season 2 there are a lot more “funny” eps. If I’m not mistaken the boys hunt some Ghost in Hollywood and they spend the whole episode making fun of Hollywood. Especially Dean as a PA. Good stuff
