Attention Baltimore Film Fans! Aliens Are Trespassing At A Drive-In Near You!!

July 17th, 2009–

Wow, when it rains it pours. It’s a great weekend to be a film fan in Baltimore, but there are so many choices that you are sure to end up missing something no matter how you tailor your schedule. With the usual vat of new releases, the Senator playing Rashomon and Artscape and The Charles putting on that big show in the city it would be easy to overlook something like this. However, I think that would be a mistake. The above movie is Alien Trespass and while I haven’t seen it, with a poster like that, now I know I need to! Looking like it was made in 195o (it was actually filmed last year on an indie budget) with the likes of Dan Lauria and Robert Patrick showing up, Alien Trespass is probably a movie that could ONLY be properly enjoyed in that late summer night ambience that only the drive-in can provide. And if you are interested in checking it out, you can get into Bengies Drive-In, located in Middle River, Baltimore, MD (see the WEBSITE for showtimes and directions and all that other stuff) for 8 bucks and that includes not only this little gem but two other films as well.

Starting at 8:45 on Friday and Saturday is The Battle for Terra, an animated science fiction film revolving around the idea that when Earth is destroyed, its displaced Earthlings target another race’s planet for occupation and the titular skirmish ensues. I haven’t seen this one yet, but I have to say I’m intriged. At 10:30 Bengies will show Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the latest in the boy wizard saga(and just maybe the best one yet!) I saw this one last night and I’ll have my review up soon, but if you are a fan of the series at all you know you will be seeing this one regardless of what I say. Good news is disappointment isn’t an issue. And of course, finally, climbing on top of the pile at 12:45 is Alien Trespass. Set your phasers to stun!!

I don’t think Im gonna make this unless Cake has some sort of melt-down and doesn’t play Artscape, but I’m already trying to work out plans to check out Alien Trespass in that drive-in setting. C’mon, Bengies! Is there a chance this one is gonna be a holdover?

Have a great weekend everyone and have a good time whatever you end up doing!

So MD has drive ins? That’s good to know. I have very fond memories of the Drive In from growing up. I saw Star Wars, Raiders, Alien, Big Trouble in Little China, Aliens and just about every major movie from mid 70’s through the mid 80’s at the drive in. Good times.
