Dr. Strangelove nukes Federal Hill tonight, Ocean’s 13 invades Little Italy tomorrow!

9 Jul

dr_strangeloveJuly 9th, 2009–I nearly missed this info, and I apologize for the late notice.  Anyone looking for something free to do tonight or tomorrow night in Baltimore can head over here and check out the roster for free outdoor movies.

The American Visionary Art Museum has put together a summer film festival that will play every Thursday night at 9 p.m. Last week was Raiders of the Lost Ark (I’m actually sorry I missed that one) and tonight’s feature is Stanley Kubrick’s classic doomsday satire Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb.

Admission to the movies are free, but even better is that between 5 and 9 p.m. every Thursday the museum itself is free admission. Thats a pretty groovy deal! So, if you are in the mood for a cheap date, and your date has always wanted to see disturbingly surreal dummies made out of styrofoam and straw or the Titanic painstakingly recreated with toothpicks, this one might be up your alley. As someone who was just at Federal Hill last week wandering around, I have to say that it would be a great place to see a movie, overlooking the Harbor and the rest of Baltimore at night.

If you are busy tonight, but still want to do the free movie thing, theres another opportunity tomorrow night at Little Italy, whose long running Open Air Film Festival sees a variety of different (usually) Italian themed flicks played on the side of a building at the intersection of High and Stiles streets.  The film of choice is Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s 13, which might not be the greatest flick of all time, but outside with a good group of friends fresh from one of the uber-awesome nearby restuarants would probably still make for a great time.

For the list of the other films in both series, check out this link HERE which will also provide you with info to other local outdoor movie events.
