God I hope it doesn't become a common thing to just make movies over there in hopes for it to be remade over here. My problem with the movie is that the book came out in 01, and A LOT has changed about airplane travel since then. The book had to have been written before 9-11, it was published January 1, 2001. Also since then a lot of air lines have tanked and are going bankrupt, so is the notion of what Bigham is trying to achieve with the miles even relevant anymore? Are the luxuries of primer club members even worth it? The whole movie felt dated and just wrong. Cloondawg and Vera are fine, but the movie is just so out of touch that its not funny. Kendrick's character is just awful and makes no logical sense, same with Bateman's. But like you said about Rietman, he had a promising movie in his hands and he blew it. The second this movie GETS CLOSE to becoming a DRAMADY he cuts away. It was like he didn't want it to get to heavy handed and dramatic, and I guess thought it was funny enough to stand alone as a comedy (like Groundhogs Day), but in the end it goes no where and ends up being nothing but Up In The Air...ahahahahahaha you like that?
